What is the difference between a Volvo scheduled oil service and a vehicle inspection?

Volvo servicing splits work into an oil service and a longer vehicle inspection rather than a lettered Service A / Service B. The oil service is typically annual (or around 10,000–16,000 miles) and covers oil, oil filter, cabin filter where due, fluid check and a VIDA service-indicator reset. The inspection is the longer check — often around two years depending on how the car is driven — and adds brake fluid, air filter, spark plugs on petrol cars and a longer inspection list.

How much does a Volvo service cost in London?

At our London workshop, a scheduled oil service starts from £249 and a vehicle inspection from £349, depending on model and engine. We send a fixed-price quote before any work begins.

Will an independent service affect my Volvo warranty?

No. Under EU Block Exemption Regulation, independent servicing does not void your manufacturer or approved-used warranty as long as it is done to the Volvo schedule with the correct Volvo-approved oils and parts — which is exactly how we work.

What happens if I skip a Volvo service?

Skipping services — particularly gearbox fluid, brake fluid and Volvo-approved oil changes — is the single most common cause of expensive repairs on modern Volvos. We recommend sticking to the time/mileage schedule.

How much do Volvo diagnostics cost?

Our standard diagnostic charge is £85 inc. VAT, which includes a full VIDA scan across every control unit, live data analysis and a written report. We credit the charge against any repair we carry out.

Is a generic OBD2 scan the same as VIDA diagnostics?

No. An OBD2 scanner only reads emissions-related faults. A modern Volvo has dozens of control units. Volvo VIDA reads all of them, runs live data, actuates components on demand and does coding and programming — the same as a main dealer.
